Boat Speed Conversion

Canada posts speed limits in kph or km/hr, which means kilometres per hour (ki'-low-mee-trz). Statute miles per hour (mph) is used in cars and powerboats. Knots (kts) means nautical miles per hour, used in sailboats and ships. 1 nm is the length of 1 minute of latitute; 60 nm in 1 degree of latitude. (TIP: Divide km/hr in half to get an approximate speed in knots.)
